The Risks of Ignoring Banking Emails

Staying informed about your financial health can be vital. With more and more banking information being communicated through email, messages are getting overlooked. Read why these emails matter, how they may be getting missed, and how you can ensure you don't miss them.

Why are your banking emails slipping through the cracks?

    • Email Filters: Email providers such as Google and Yahoo set up rules to organize your inbox. If you're not opening certain emails, they may be moved to spam or junk folders without your permission.
    • Unengaged User: If you don't open emails periodically -- such as every 11 emails -- email delivery platforms also attempt to organize "unengaged" users and will often remove you from the send list altogether.
    • Unsubscribed: If you clicked “unsubscribe” in a previous email, you may have chosen to stop all future communications from your credit union instead of opting out of a specific product or service that no longer applies to you.
    • Outdated Info: If you have an old email with your financial institution, you will miss all communications.

What can you do to ensure you receive your banking emails?

    • Update Your Contact Info: Be sure your financial institution has your correct contact information, including email. At Levo, you can update those details within your online banking portal.
    • Opt-In: Be sure that you have subscribed to the emails you want to receive from your financial institution. You will find this option most often on the website, online banking portal, or you can call your financial institution and let them know you'd like to receive marketing/banking emails from them. If you have opted out of Levo emails, you most likely miss out on critical information that may protect your account or provide you with specific information about your money.
    • Open Your Emails: When you see an email from your credit union, take a moment to open it. Clicking to ensure you see critical information and clicking into topics that interest you will further your chances of receiving future emails.
    • Check Your Junk Folders: Make a habit of checking your junk folders for any misplaced emails. If you find an email there you want to start seeing in your main inbox, mark it as "not spam".

What are the potential consequences of missing critical banking emails?

    • Fraud Alerts: In case of scams or fraud, education is sent out to help you protect your money. Missing these alerts can delay your response to potential fraud and leave you vulnerable.
    • Banking Updates: Emergency situations, inclement weather, scheduled maintenance, or branch closures might temporarily disrupt online banking and services. Stay informed to avoid surprises.
    • Special Offers: We provide a range of services and products that can support your financial goals. If you’re not receiving our emails, you could miss beneficial opportunities.
    • Personal Account Information: You might be missing out on important updates for your accounts, like e-statements, new banking tool releases, skip-a-pay eligibility, banking fee changes, rate adjustments, and more.
As a member-owned credit union, Levo shares important information about how we serve our community and help our members, and even how you can get involved to help play an active role in what we're doing.
