Levo Awards Sioux Falls Teacher $500

Jobs for America’s Graduates helps students get ready for college or the workforce, and at Jefferson High School, JAG is taught by MaryGail Monahan. Mrs. Monahan is one of our Adopt a Classroom winners this year — a fitting reward for her final year of teaching before she retires. She was nominated by a former student, Finn. Jen McKeown finds out why he nominated her and what she’ll do with the funds. To see all 8 winners go to https://www.levo.org/education-blog/levo-recognizes-8-amazing-area-teachers-1.

(0:00) Levo is pleased to award this Adopt-A-Classroom Award to MaryGail Monahan, the JAG teacher (0:07) at Jefferson. (0:08) And she was nominated by Finn, who's going to tell us why he nominated her.

(0:13) I nominated Mrs. Monahan because I think she's genuinely a great teacher. (0:17) She's done so much for me to push me forward in my academic and my just job career in general. (0:24) She's given me some really great opportunities. (0:26) Last year, we went up to the Capitol and just saw how laws were being made, and I've (0:30) seen how much she puts into her classroom and the students she has.
    (0:34) And I just, I think she's really wonderful.

(0:36) That is amazing. (0:37) Thank you.

(0:37) Mrs. Monahan, how are you going to use the $500? (0:40)

Well, we have big plans for this money. (0:43) This money will go toward our Kinder Connection-Marcella LeBeau Elementary School partnership that we (0:50) formed at the beginning of this year. (0:52) We hope to help it, use it to fund a bus trip, maybe to the zoo, a combined JAG and kindergarten (0:59) trip to the zoo.

(1:01) Sounds fantastic. (1:03) Well, thank you for nominating her, and thank you for everything you do for our kids. (1:06)

    Thank you.

    (1:07) Appreciate that.
