Meet Fran Sommerfeld

Fran Sommerfeld serves Levo’s members as President/CEO. He has been part of Levo for more than 17 years and brings more than 35 years of experience as a credit union leader.

Fran earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Mary. He is a graduate of the CUNA Mutual School and a Certified Credit Union Executive (CCUE). His industry involvement includes multiple terms on the CUNA CU Powers Subcommittee, where he provided feedback on legislative and regulatory proposals affecting credit unions, as well as service on the Federal Reserve Bank Community Depository Institution Advisory Council.

Fran’s leadership has also been recognized throughout his career. He was named to America’s Credit Union Hall of Leaders in 2026 and received CU Magazine’s Rock Star Award in 2019.

Fran volunteers for and supports several nonprofits in the community, including Feeding South Dakota, REACH Literacy, Junior Achievement and March of Dimes. His favorite part of working at Levo is helping people live better—whether that means helping members achieve financial success or strengthening the communities Levo serves.
